AMD server chips to change strategy by the new six core processors

AMD substantially revised its server chip development strategy, adding
a new 6-core processors, next-generation core of the completion of the
extension into the next decade.
Barcelona is not easy to throw caused confusion in the back, AMD can
finally carefully review its server business planning. The company
decided to extend the use of existing technology to the core processor
in 2010 and an additional 6-core processors Istanbul, set in the
second half of 2009.

December also appeared last year in the planning of nuclear 4 and 8
core chips Montreal, has cancelled a whole. Replace the six core chips
are the "Sao Paolo", and 12 core chips "Magny-Cours" (It is said that
the procedure is a racing venue).

AMD corporate vice president and head of the server sector Randy Allen
said, these two products are scheduled to complete the first half of
2010, with Barcelona and use the same processor core technology. These
will not use AMD chips in July of last year's "Bulldozer" core.

These changes appear to be on schedule in order to ensure that AMD to
launch new products. Barcelona highlights the crisis facing the two:
First, the technical implementation issues so that the product has
been delayed for nearly a year, and is AMD's customers and investors
worried that the company no ability to change into a stable, trusted
computing major suppliers .

After all, come out before Opteron, AMD in the server market no
records to follow. Opteron changed everything for AMD in the server
sector to become well-known companies, each promoted to the rank of a
major global server vendor suppliers. But Barcelona will certainly
damage the disaster caused by the customer the impression of AMD, and
their reaction is very simple: to maintain relations, not to find
excuses excuse.

Sao Paolo and Magny-Cours to adopt the new chip set, to tie in with
the switch to a faster DDR3 memory, and to AMD's 45-nanometer process
technology manufacturing. Istanbul can match for Barcelona or Shanghai
(later this year will launch the 45-nanometer version of Barcelona)
design of the server, user-friendly conversion Barce lona customers.
Montreal will be with the new chipset launch, but time delay to 2010.

Istanbul is apparently ready for Intel in the second half of this
year, the six core server chip Dunnington. But Istanbul to be listed
until the second half of 2009, than Intel's Nehalem processor
generations later.

However, the product can fight for more time for AMD, in its 2010 to
concentrate on the new scheme. Fusion is part of a plan Bulldozer core
technology, as early as in July last year on the public, but in AMD in
the planning of the end of last year has disappeared.

Until April this year, AMD president and chief operating officer Dirk
Meyer also said the analyst, Bulldozer samples still in accordance
with the established timetable for completion in 2009. Allen pointed
out, but he did not mention how AMD will use this technology because
the company yet to be determined on the Bulldozer core planning.

Allen said that AMD now decided to push Sao Paolo and Magny-Cours two
products, and to continue with Barcelona is the core design, Shanghai
and Istanbul is the same. In the plan deal with the core number, from
4-8 core, increased to 6-12 core, to provide higher performance
computing.

He said that parallel to the huge workload of the server customers may
choose to Magny-Cours, and Sao Paolo more suitable for only a small
number of threads used to run faster speed customers. Second-speed
computing has not yet finalized, but the six core of the Sao Paolo
than 12 core Magny-Cours faster.

Discards from the original planning is not a good thing, but at least
the next few years show that AMD to adopt a pragmatic attitude. The
company is facing a serious problem in the past quarter of a loss of
several hundreds of millions of dollars. CEO Hector Ruiz To
Baozhufanwan, it may be necessary in the second half of this year to
finance a draw.

The question now is, AMD's PC processors, it will change the original
plan. The company has been planned through 2009 notebook computer
chip, the computing speed up the launch of its programme (formerly
known as Fusion plan). As of now, this plan has not yet been changes,
but with the original plan the first Fusion Technology Officer Phil
Hester left, and the next few months, 10 percent of the employees will
be severance, the situation might have changed.
